Composition Notebook Sassification Tutorial

I am not quite sure if sassification is a real word or not, but what the heck lets just pretend.

I signed up to donate journals to a local childrens home for teenage girls. I bought a bunch of composition notebooks from Target with the intention of spicing them up to give away. They were only twenty-five cents so if it was a craft fail I could always go back and buy some more.

Here are the original, boring notebooks:

They definitely need some help. So I gathered up the usual suspects:

    • Mod Podge
    • Sand paper
    • Scrapbook paper
    • Ribbon
    • Fake flowers
Step One: You want to sand the front and back of your composition notebook so that the Mod Podge will adhere. These composition notebooks were pretty waxy so it took a bit of time.

    (I need a manicure)

Step Two:  With your paint brush you will want to coat the front cover of the composition notebook with a thin layer of Mod Podge. I also left the side of the composition book alone (the white tape).

Step Three: Place your paper on top of the Mod Podged composition notebook. I lined the paper up next to the white tape on the side of the notebook.

Step Four: Coat the top of the composition notebook with Mod Podge. Be generous and use up and down strokes. Repeat if needed.

Step Five: After you let the Mod Podge dry for at least 20 minutes turn your notebook over and using fine tipped scissors cut around the notebook.  Flip again and sand around the edges to smooth out any rough cuts.

Step Six: Well you could be done or you could embellish it a little more. I decided to add a little ribbon with some glue.

Step Seven: Also optional, but nothing says a girls journal to me like a flower. And Here is the finished product......

And another one just because:  I made like seven of them and it would be silly to only show one.

Happy Crafting! Hopefully you will have some fun making this project.

These are adorable! I may make them for Teacher Appreciation Week, since tomorrow is the last day and it's 9pm and Target is the only store still open:). And if I have time I just may make one for myself because I think they're that cute!

Oh yeah...I'm linking over from TheBlogFrog.

I love making personal journals for gifts. You can add great affirmations or sayings on the outside as well as in the inside. Personalizing them makes them even more special.
